AMS Housing was formed as a direct response to the poor service landlords we knew were experiencing at the hands of rogue agents. Far too many promised the world to landlords, but very few actually delivered.

Common complaints included failure by agents to deal with issues promptly or take responsibility for their actions. Tenants’ deposits were not registered, proper credit checks were not done, rent payments were late, and landlords were frequently overcharged for simple expenses. In the worst cases, managed properties failed to comply with housing legislation, leaving landlords with hefty fines.

Membership of professional bodies

  • ARLA: our senior consultants belong to the Association of Residential Letting Agents, which requires them to understand complex housing legislation, keep professional indemnity insurance, and comply with professional standards and industry best practice.
  • LLAS: our staff are members of the London Landlords Accreditation Scheme. It means they abide by the LLAS Code of Conduct, have attended a development course and been vetted as being fit to be a landlord.
  • Ombudsman Services – Property: our complaints procedures help to rectify any issues that arise with our clients. On the rare occasion that it is not possible, the Property Ombudsman can serve as an independent arbitrator. It is fair, fast and much cheaper than resorting to the courts.
  • PRS: as required by law, our senior team are all members of the Property Redress Scheme. Among other things, it means consumers with a complaint can use this government-authorised scheme to resolve it. If required, the issue can be elevated to the industry Ombudsman whose decision AMS will abide by.
